First and foremost, on behalf of all the local manufacturers, may I take this opportunity in expressing my congratulations on the signing of contract for the supply of converter station equipments for Three Gorges to Shanghai HVDC transmission project and for its ensuing success.

Three Gorges to Shanghai HVDC transmission project is another very important project of Three Gorges Hydro Power outgoing supply and delivering power from the western part of China up to the eastern part. This project was awarded to the consortium of local manufacturer and ABB through international bidding rules and procedures ensuring the transparency and fair competition fully supported by National Development and Reform Commission, the State Council Three Gorges Project Construction Committee, State Grid Corporation of China and China Machinery Industry Federation.

In comparison with the project of Three Gorges to Changzhou HVDC and Three Gorges to Guangdong HVDC project, this project will have more local participation both in technical and production. While ABB will be in general control of its technical requirements and quality assurance, as stipulated in the bidding documents, the local manufacturer will undertake the work for the system study and system design; will independently manufacture the local portion equipment for HVDC control & protection, converter transformers, smoothing reactors, thyristor and valves, with joint-design and co-production.
